Adam Apricot
Adam Apricot is a unique dual-purpose fig that offers the rare combination of a functional male breba crop and a delicious edible main crop. In early summer, the tree produces an abundant breba crop of small violet male figs that contain pollen, making it a valuable choice for growers interested in caprification or breeding projects. Later in the season, it transitions into a prolific crop of edible common figs with greenish-yellow skin and an interior that ranges from soft pink to warm golden amber.
The flavor evolves beautifully as the fruit ripens. Earlier-picked figs have a refreshing honeydew melon sweetness, while fully ripe fruit develops distinctive notes of ripe apricot layered over honeyed melon, creating a bright, fruit-forward profile unlike most traditional honey figs. The flesh is smooth, juicy, and richly sweet with relatively few seeds, and some fruit may contain virtually none.
Adam Apricot is believed to be a persistent caprifig, a rare trait in which the tree produces both viable pollen-bearing male figs and a reliable crop of edible figs without pollination. This characteristic makes it especially valuable for fig enthusiasts, breeders, and collectors alike. Found growing in close proximity to the renowned Cherry Pie fig, Adam Apricot has become appreciated not only for its breeding potential but also for its abundant harvests and distinctive, apricot-like flavor.
