Borda Barraquer
Borda Barraquer is a rare Spanish fig, preserved through the collection of renowned fig conservationist Montserrat Pons. The original tree was discovered at Can Barraquer in Sineu, Mallorca, where it was rescued and preserved as part of the effort to document and protect traditional Mediterranean fig varieties.
Medium-sized figs ripen with a striking deep blue-purple exterior, sometimes appearing almost black-blue at full maturity. The thin skin surrounds a rich garnet-red interior with a soft, jammy texture. Its flavor is complex and refined, offering layers of berry sweetness, rich fig notes, and a pleasant seed crunch that adds to the overall eating experience.
Borda Barraquer produces a generous main crop of high-quality fruit and is a common (self-fertile) fig, making it suitable for growers without fig wasp pollination. Its unusual color, excellent flavor, and rarity make it a prized choice among collectors of premium Spanish fig varieties.
