Gambino

Gambino is a distinctive Sacred Origin seedling discovered from a cherished fig tree growing beside an irrigation canal at the entrance to an Italian family's home during Lee Ann's childhood in Northern California. This exceptional common (self-fertile) variety produces medium-sized figs with a soft yellow-green skin that becomes almost ivory at full maturity. When allowed to reach peak ripeness, the interior transforms into a stunning toasted amber-orange, glowing like a polished gemstone.

The flavor is unlike that of almost any other fig. A remarkably smooth, silky texture gives way to rich notes of pure maple syrup layered over ripe banana, creating a dessert-like experience reminiscent of warm waffles topped with sliced bananas and drizzled with real maple syrup. The skin is exceptionally thin and nearly melts away with each bite, while the flesh remains creamy, luscious, and richly sweet. A small, tightly closed eye helps protect the fruit from insects and excess moisture, allowing it to ripen beautifully on the tree.
