Its name, meaning "Lady's Neck," refers to the fruit's distinctive elongated shape, while Roja, meaning "red," distinguishes this selection from the other recognized members of the Coll de Dama family.
The medium to large fruit ripens with bronze-green to reddish-brown skin that encloses a dense, ruby-red interior.
