Jolly Rancher

Jolly Rancher is a remarkable green-skinned fig that delivers a flavor unlike almost any other cultivar. The medium-sized fruit ripens to yellow-green skin surrounding a vibrant burgundy-red interior with a dense, jam-like texture. Its sweetness is layered with a distinctive tart cherry note that immediately evokes the flavor of a cherry Jolly Rancher candy—the inspiration behind its name. Beneath the bright fruitiness are hints of ripe berries and rich fig syrup, creating a flavor profile that is both bold and refreshing.

The flesh is thick and juicy with a light seed crunch that complements its smooth, preserve-like consistency. Despite its modest size, Jolly Rancher produces intensely flavored fruit that continues ripening late into the season, often extending well into autumn under favorable conditions.

Discovered by The Fig Hunter as a chance seedling growing through abandoned fencing beneath a bird perch on the southern edge of Northern California's wine country, Jolly Rancher was introduced as TFH-270 in 2019. Although a relatively recent introduction, it has quickly become one of The Fig Hunter's most sought-after selections, prized for its unique candy-like cherry flavor, beautiful green exterior, and outstanding eating quality.
