Barran
Barran is an exceptional, early-ripening French cultivar introduced by Figues du Monde (FDM). It is prized for its outstanding fruit quality, vigorous growth, and remarkable reliability. This common (self-fertile) variety is a heavy producer of medium-sized figs that ripen from green to a rich burgundy-purple, revealing a dense strawberry-red interior that becomes intensely jammy as the fruit reaches full maturity. Barren is known for its long fruiting period of several months.
Barran rewards patience on the tree. As the figs soften and develop a pronounced neck droop, the flesh concentrates into a remarkably rich, syrupy texture bursting with flavors of ripe strawberries, wild forest berries, and sweet honeycomb. The skin is exceptionally thin and pleasantly tart, creating a beautiful balance with the intensely sweet interior. Fine edible seeds add a delicate crunch that enhances its luxurious, preserve-like consistency. The small, tightly closed eye helps the fruit resist splitting and spoilage, allowing it to remain on the tree while its flavors continue to deepen.
